Extraordinary Estate
AN UPDATED AND INVITING HOME FOR FRIENDS AND FAMILY
ABOUT THIS PROJECT
Right before Covid, our client reached out to us initially for assistance with several small kitchen upgrades, including countertops and backsplashes. The DESIGN415 team got to work, and it soon became apparent that our design vision was in sync with our client’s and from there, the project kept expanding. What started out as a modest project soon became a multi-year complete remodel of the entire home. We’re talking kitchen, several living areas, bathrooms, bedrooms, indoor AND outdoor spaces, wine cellar, home theater - the works!
In fact, we are still in progress - the interior has been completed, and now our team is finishing up on various outdoor elements including the pool house and casita. Soon, our client will be able to move into her beautiful new & improved home.
This project covers all aspects of DESIGN415’s residential interior & exterior design services and it has been a dream working on it.
INTERIOR & EXTERIOR DESIGN
This project includes both interior and exterior design of a residential property. It started out with small interior design elements and over time has grown into an complete indoor/outdoor project.
DESIGN FOR ALL/WHAT AREAS OF THE HOME
This project included:
Kitchen and pantry
Living area - open concept
8 Bathrooms
5 Bedrooms (including the primary suite, guest rooms, kids area)
2 Home offices
Home theater
Wine cellar
Home gym and fitness area (weights, cardio machines, and yoga/pilates studio)
Closets
Library and reading space
Outdoor spaces - front and back of the house, patio space, entertaining and dining area, pool house and casita, and storage
As you can see, this project was inclusive of all areas of the home!
TYPE OF PROPERTY/HOME
This project is for a primary residence, a single family detached home.
NATURAL MATERIALS & SUSTAINABILITY
This project included several natural materials throughout the design in different areas of the home - for example, hand woven window coverings from Indonesia consisting of grasses and reeds, leather, exotic wood, natural fibers for fabrics and area rugs, and inlaid glass & marble backsplash.
New appliances incorporate energy efficient features.
Solar panels are outdoors and help power various areas of the home.
For window treatments, our team selected and oversaw the installation of exterior blackout motorized shades. This helps with cooling and energy conservation and also ensures a cozy dark space for the home theater - perfect for movies!
SPECIAL ATTENTION PAID TO THE SITE/LOCATION
This sprawling estate features many Redwood and Oak trees which provide privacy and shade to the property. The home is in a quiet residential area, very contained and typical of homes in Atherton.
INTERIOR DESIGN STYLE/AESTHETIC
DESIGN415 leaned into contemporary and modern interior design style for this project, however certain areas (such as the library and home office) adopted a more traditional design style. We embraced transitional design throughout various areas of the home (interior & exterior) and also included pops of color especially in living areas.
COLOR CONSULTATION
Since this project embraced a modern & contemporary design style, we went with colors that are neutral, calming and cohesive.
PROJECT TIMELINE
Initially the client approached us in late 2019 to begin a “small” design project, but here we are several years later still working on it - however the scope has grown ENORMOUSLY so the long timeline makes total sense.
PROJECT LOCATION
This project is located in Atherton in the San Francisco Bay Area.
