On a Mission to Tidy Up

WARM AND COZY ARTS AND CRAFTS RETREAT

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

From cluttered to cozy, this project delivered a big impact on a small space! The homeowners came to us with one request: take a well-loved, but overly busy space and turn it into something beautiful yet functional for the family. They wanted to clean up the room while also transforming it into a mature and cohesive space.

We removed the old floors and replaced them with beautiful quarter sawn white oak flooring and introduced a wool rug for coziness and textural visual effect. DESIGN415 also came up with plans for custom mission style shelving that spans the entire wall, featuring a custom gas burning marble fireplace.

Once the flooring was laid and the custom shelving was installed, DESIGN415 selected the paint colors to bring together all the elements of the room.

We incorporated some of the homeowner’s existing Stickley furniture in the redesigned space, while introducing a custom sofa and other well-placed accessories.

INTERIOR DESIGN

This project was an interior design of a living room in a residential property.

TYPE OF PROPERTY/HOME

This project is for a primary residence, a single-family detached home.

NATURAL MATERIALS & SUSTAINABILITY

This project included several natural materials throughout the design including quarter sawn white oak flooring and custom cherry wood shelving. The gas burning fireplace and its marble surround were also new additions to the room as part of this design project.

SPECIAL ATTENTION PAID TO THE SITE/LOCATION

This property is situated in a busy residential area, so we added plantation shutters as part of the room’s window treatment to offer privacy and light filtration.

INTERIOR DESIGN STYLE/AESTHETIC

DESIGN415 adopted a mission/arts and crafts style when redesigning this room. The new look offers cozy and traditional elements while greatly scaling back the clutter in the room.

COLOR CONSULTATION

As part of this project the DESIGN415 team selected neutral paint colors to really let the new wood floors and built-in cabinetry shine.

PROJECT TIMELINE

From start to finish, this project took approximately 6 months because of the many custom elements and special order items.

PROJECT LOCATION

This project is in Redwood City in the San Francisco Bay Area.
