ABOUT THIS PROJECT

The homeowners approached DESIGN415 after being referred by a friend who had used our interior design services and was extremely happy with the results. Initially, they asked us to simply help accessorize their new home. Simple project, we thought, but our clients soon realized that they loved our vision and design styling, so the project quickly expanded from there.

This multi-year and multi-stage project involved renovations and remodeling to many areas of the home, everything from the living room to dining room, family room, primary bedroom, as well as outdoor spaces. As the project grew, DESIGN415 was able to create a fully harmonious and cohesive design that spanned the entire home.

One of the design delights of this project was that the clients wanted to include several Asian/Japanese elements throughout the home. A few years prior, they lived in Japan and were keen to highlight that experience through new furnishings and other items. This extended to other design features, both for styling details and materials used.

Art was a big part of this project and the DESIGN415 team curated a selection of pieces to be used throughout the home including an antique Japanese decorative screen.

A big feature of this redesign project was the new and improved wine cellar. The clients needed a place to house their extensive wine collection, and since they are members of several wine clubs, they had many bottles to work with! We transformed a modest closet into a large temperature-controlled wine cellar.

Best of all, our clients have been so impressed by our work that they have sent their friends and neighbors our way!

INTERIOR & EXTERIOR DESIGN

This project includes both interior and exterior design of a residential property. It started out as a small decorating project and over time has grown into a multi-phase indoor/outdoor design project.

DESIGN FOR ALL/WHAT AREAS OF THE HOME

This project included:

  • Living area

  • Primary bedroom

  • Home office

  • Home theater

  • Wine cellar

  • Closet below the stairs

  • Outdoor spaces - back of the house, outdoor kitchen, fire pit, patio space, dining and entertaining area including a pop up TV

As you can see, this project was inclusive of all areas of the home!

TYPE OF PROPERTY/HOME

This project is for a primary residence, a single family detached home.

NATURAL MATERIALS & SUSTAINABILITY

This project included several natural materials throughout the design in different areas of the home - for example, hand woven window coverings from Indonesian consisting of grasses and reeds, Tibetan wool rugs, wood, hardwood floors, etc.

Outdoor fire pit has several control elements.

INTERIOR DESIGN STYLE/AESTHETIC

DESIGN415 leaned into Asian-inspired contemporary design for this project.

COLOR CONSULTATION

We turned cold & grey walls throughout the home into a much warmer color palette, making use of whites, wood elements and beiges.

PROJECT TIMELINE

As this was a multi-phase design project, it took several years from start to finish.

PROJECT LOCATION

This project is located in Palo Alto in the San Francisco Bay Area.
